Alice uninhibited,

the Puy de Dôme in lace,

a nod to pre-cinema

and a quiet homage to Ukraine.

The imagery for the 2023 edition of the Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival was created by the Portuguese illustrator and animated film director Regina Pessoa, who was here last February as a member of the National Jury, alongside Yassine Qnia, Olivier Broche and Vincent Maël Cardona.

"In my personal work, I like developing images that may seem simple but can be read at numerous levels and can’t be grasped in a single glance. I also like exploring people and settings that reveal an internal world that is both fascinating and troubling. This image for Clermont-Ferrand is no exception and my approach to the composition was influenced by several factors, some of a personal nature, others coming from the landscapes around the Festival, and still others are of a more general nature, prompted by the world we live in, which has been far from dreary these past few years".

Regina Pessoa, a word about the author and her world.

Regina Pessoa was born in 1969 in Coimbra, Portugal. She studied painting at the Fine Arts University in Porto.

In 1999, she directed and animated her first film A Noite using an etching technique on plaster plates. Since then, she has worked with numerous etching techniques and continues to create and direct animated films such as História Trágica com Final Feliz [A Tragic Story with a Happy Ending] in 2005, Kali the Little Vampire in 2012 and Uncle Thomas, Accounting for the Days in 2019. Her films have received over 150 awards.

In 2021, she was placed third on the list of twenty-five best animated film directors from the past twenty-five years. She became, and still remains, the highest-placing woman on the list.

She is currently working on her next film, Mother Faces, through Ciclope Filmes.

The 2022 poster is for sale at the online shop and in locations around Clermont-Ferrand.

The Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Film Festival will be held from 27 January through 4 February 2023.
