Echoing government’s reassurance to investors into South Africa’s economy, the Durban FilmMart, one of Africa’s premier film industry events will be “open for business” when it begins its four day event on July 20 during the 39th Durban International Film Festival (DIFF).

The DIFF in partnership with the eThekwini Municipality’s Durban Film Office, the City’s film industry development arm under the Economic and Development cluster, has, for nine years, presented this important gathering for filmmakers from across the continent and further afield with the specific aim at growing the African industry.

“The DFM attracts an array of film-makers including directors, producers, scriptwriters, investors and financiers, distributors and broadcasters as well as curators for festivals and other markets, and is globally renowned for providing an important springboard for African stories and ideas, collaborations and investment into film projects,” explains Toni Monty, Head of the DFO and DFM. “Essentially this is how film projects are given a leg up to help them on their way.”

Speaking on behalf of the DFO, Monty says, “As a government entity, in partnership with the DIFF, we take our role very seriously in working on a highly professional level with filmmakers to ensure we provide an environment that is enabling for them.”

“The Mart brings in over 400 experts, people and organisations interested in potential film projects for further development. Here they are able to meet film-makers from Africa, discuss and engage and then it’s over to them to conclude their business independently. The event ultimately seeks to build Durban as an important hub for doing film and television business in Africa.”

The DFM includes a series of masterclasses, seminars and panel discussions to help filmmakers keep up to date on trends, innovations and policies. There are also many networking opportunities for them to build strong business connections on both a continental and international level.

New for DFM is the appointment of local arts and culture administrator, Russel Hlongwane as the curator of both the DFM and DIFF’s industry programme, which has enabled a consolidation that speaks to the DIFF’s theme “leave no filmmaker behind.”

Hlongwane explains, “We have sought a programme that provides delegates with innovation and new thinking, and thought-leadership that we believe will provide insightful and meaningful engagements that can be taken forward.”

Key speakers this year include Dayo Ogunyemi a Lagos-based creative entrepreneur and investor who will give presentation that foregrounds African markets as

lucrative territories. Stephen Follows, from the UK, is a leading trainer and thought-leader in how storytelling can be used to change hearts and minds. Follows, who is also a data researcher in the film industry, will present a high level session which unpacks key shifts and trends shaping the market from an international perspective. LA-based Peter Russell is a screenwriter and story doctor in Hollywood who will present a session in which he will share the secrets of how film storytelling can be adapted into the red hot television storytelling market.

Another major highlight, which is sure to have filmmakers interests piqued, is that Richard Ray Perez, Director: Creative Partnerships at the Sundance Institute’s Documentary Film Programme will address a gathering for delegates entitled Stories of Change: A Collaborative Model for Impactful Storytelling.

Sessions at DFM will look at the aesthetical and fundamental values that will define films from the African continent; insights into ways African filmmakers can source and work the often hard and tricky world of financing structures on the continent; how to work towards a more ‘’entrepreneurial approach’’ to filmmaking without compromising creative content; distribution, and what makes a successful documentary.

Speaking to current issues, the South African Screen Federation will lead a discussion entitled, Are there any Sacred Cows in Filmmaking? following the recent public debates around handling of sensitive social and cultural issues within film, and Sisters Working in Film and Television (SWIFT) will lead discussions on issues of sexual harassment, race and transformation in the industry. Other important discussions taking place include The practicalities and importance of Co-Production Treaties and Copyright vs Copyleft – where to from here? The National Film and Video Foundation will also present a series of workshops and discussions on policies and local industry trends.

Additional insightful sessions will include the Department of Trade and Industry’s launch of the Industries Film Incentives Guidelines and Emerging Black Filmmakers’ Fund Guidelines. The programme will include a set of discussions, led by the Department of Arts and Culture, on current and future collaborations within the BRICS member countries. Filmmakers will have the opportunity to network with member country filmmaker delegations in attendance.

The official pitching forums will include representatives from sixteen pre-selected African film projects that will be pitching film projects to leading financiers, broadcasters and other potential funders and investors at the DFM’s finance forum.

Running parallel to the DFM, and supported by the experts and visiting speakers, is the Durban International Film Festival’s open industry programme, Isiphethu, aimed at introducing entry level, emerging filmmakers, micro-budget film-makers as well as interested members of the public to the inner-workings of the world of cinema.

Manager of the DIFF, Chipo Zhou says, “Our strategy for Isiphethu, is to support filmmakers in developing quality content. We want to be able to offer these filmmakers opportunities to incubate projects, be mentored by experts, network

with seasoned and experienced peers, and be included in the overall vision of the DIFF and DFM, to grow quality African content. In short to include this sector of the industry into the greater industry fold, “leaving no filmmaker behind.”

“The “economy” of film, is central to the objectives of the Durban FilmMart to encourage African filmmakers to look within to collaborate, finance and develop content,” says Toni Monty. “We are very excited to see so many DFM alumni projects that have come to fruition, doing very well on local and international festival and cinema circuits and many with good distribution deals: these include films like DIFF’s closing film Rafiki, Inxeba: The Wound and, Five Fingers for Marseilles, as well as Silas which is also screening at DIFF to name a few. This is exactly the strategy created by the DFO and DIFF nine years ago, and it is heartening to see the long-term value it provides for the African film industry. This year’s programme is rich in diversity and complexity, and we are looking forward to seeing Durban come alive with a real buzz of the business of filmmaking.”

The 9th Durban FilmMart takes place in Durban, at the Tsogo Sun Elangeni from 20 to 23 July 2018, during the 39th edition of the Durban International Film Festival (19 to 29 July 2018).

Online registration closes on 29 June, 2018, but there is still opportunity to register from July 19 from 2pm manually at the event. For more information on the Durban FilmMart and to register as a delegate visit www.durbanfilmmart.com or for Durban International Film Festival www.durbanfilmfest.co.za

The 2018 Nihilist International Film Festival announced that it is looking for short videos for this year’s program.  Festival Director Elisha Shapiro says, “It’s the Nihilist Film Festival for god’s sake.  Herisy, tastelessness, offensiveness…you get the idea.  We’re looking for that film other festival are afraid of.”   If you are a filmmaker who wants to be part of the fun, Shapiro hopes you will send your entry to the nineteenth edition of the Nihilist Film Festival.  The festival will be presented in December in Los Angeles.

There are no fees for entrants, and modest prizes will be awarded, thanks to a grant from the Cactus Foundation.  “The judges are capricious, but if you can make then laugh at the pointness suffering and idiocy of our species, you’re on the right track.” explained Shapiro.  Submissions must be shorter than 30 minutes and should be submitted on DVD.  The deadline for entries is September 15.  Send all submissions to:  Nihilist Film Festival, Box 36422, Los Angeles, California 90036.  More information is available at the Nihilists’ Corner web site, http://nihilists.net/film.html.  Questions can be emailed to nihilistfun@gmail.com

The Nihilist Film Festival is produced by Los Angeles conceptual artist Elisha Shapiro.  Shapiro is known for presenting the 1984 Nihilist Olympics and the 1999 Nihilism Expo.  He was also the Nihilist Party candidate for Governor of California in 2006, President in 1988, and for LA county sheriff in 1992.  So he’s not to be trifled with.

Why is Casablanca...One of the most popular films ever as well as universally praised by critics?

casa_2.jpg
Well, for a number of reasons. 1. It was not made with artistic intentions but as mainstream entertainment with popular stars and, also, as an anti-German film in the early stages of WW II. 2. The supporting character actors, all, such as Peter Lorre, Sydney Greenstreet, Dooley Wilson, and the German officer, Conrad Veidt, are terrific, even the minor characters are perfect. 3. The dialogues are among the wittiest ever in an American  film with one unforgettable one-liner after anoth...

"Think Romeo and Juliet meets Trainspotting" - Filmfestivals.com Bruno Chatelin

Taipei%20Still%207.jpeg

Taipei is an adaptation of Tao Lin’s critically-acclaimed, cult favorite novel of the same name.

Two young New York writers fall in and out of love amidst a whirlwind of drugs, parties, technology, and travel. As one relationship collapses, another blooms for Erin, swept into the world of Paul Chen, a mysterious, charismatic author. When he proposes documenting every aspect of their new romance in an epic laptop-filmed “documentary”, the couple enter into a performative bad romance, fueled by substances and sleepless nights. Tracking the pair through a shotgun Niagara Falls wedding, an LSD trip in a New Jersey mansion, and to Taiwan, the country of Paul’s birth where the couple comes to confront their individual alienation, Taipei is a visually stunning, extremely contemporary portrayal of what it means to be young, alive, and in love in a digital world.

Grossmann 2018: Vicious Cat Lineup Announced

$
0
0
We proudly present six fierce films in competition for this year's Best Feature Film award at Grossmann Fantastic Film and Wine Festival, taking place from the 10th to the 14th of July in Ljutomer, Slovenia.

If you were drawn into the abyss of rural horror with Robert Eggers' The Witch at our 2016 edition, Lukas Feigefeld's HAGAZUSSA – A HEATHEN'S CURSE will take you over the edge of madness and psychological dread with its stunning display of pagan beliefs and hopeless cruelty of life in the Alps in the 15th century. Hagazussa is a prime example of arty folk-horror for the 21st century which will continue to haunt you long after the screening.

After zombie comedy Attack of the Lederhosen Zombies, which received a special mention of the Vicious Cat jury at Grossmann 2016, Austrian director Dominik Hartl strikes again with slasher comedy PARTY HARD DIE YOUNG. Shot at Croatian seaside, this is an extremely amusing film, full of juicy jokes and gory killings, tightly paced and with plenty of twists to make sure that there isn't a dull moment on this thrilling ride.

Inspired by a traditional Basque folk tale, director Paul Urkijo Alijo's first feature ERREMENTARI (his short film Black Forest was screened in Melies d'argent competition program at Grossmann 2015) offers an immensely enjoyable blend of fairytale, comedy and horror. Its production value is on par with Hollywood blockbusters (one of the producers is Alex de la Iglesia), but its authenticity, wits and huge heart leaves any of them far behind.

TRAUMA is the most shocking, brutal and extreme horror film in recent times. From the opening scene, set in the times of military dictatorship, it is clear that director Lucio A. Rojas will put the viewers through a terrible ordeal. But this shock therapy of countless extremely disturbing scenes has its purpose and forces the audience to think about the nature of violence and the consequences it has on the next generations. You have been warned!

Police thriller blends with psychological horror in tense British film CHARISMATA, underlined by an abundance of dark humour and splashes of grisly gore. Directors Andy Collier and Toor Mian don't try to reinvent the genre rules, instead they offer a thrilling ride, made with astounding technical skill and precise building of tension which culminates in a terrifying finale that will knock you off the edge of your seat.

Nothing is sacred in low-budget black comedy masterpiece VIDAR THE VAMPIRE where Troma meets Kaurismäki. Religion, political correctness and good taste in general are torn apart, dragged through the mud and ruthlessly stepped upon by the writer/director duo Thomas Aske Berg & Fredrik Waldeland, who provide the unsuspecting audience with numerous unforgettable scenes, backed by a marvelous musical score.

Dominik Hartl, Paul Urkijo Alijo, Andy Collier and Thomas Aske Berg are coming to Ljutomer to announce the screenings of their films and will also gladly answer any questions from the audience.

12th Five Flavours Asian Film Festival – First program announcements

$

 nor_panel_1530018873.jpg

The eyes of the whole world keep turning towards Asia, whose political and cultural significance rapidly increases year by year. Once again, Five Flavours invites you to discover Asian reality from the inside. The Festival is a perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in gripping pop culture, take part in heated debates about the crucial social changes, and to see the works of renown masters of cinema.

Year of the dog

"Youth", dir. Feng Xiaogang, China, 2017

Following the tradition of the previous years, the visual identification of the Festival is inspired by the lunar calendar. 2018 is the year of the Dog, which symbolizes honesty, loyalty, openness to dialog, and a joyful, friendly nature.

Asian Cinerama

"Samui Song", reż. Pen-ek Ratanaruang, Thailand,Germany, Norway, 2017

Since 2007, Five Flavours teams up with Asian Film Awards Academy, the institution supporting the promotion of high quality commercial cinema from Asia. The result of this collaboration is a section made up of stunning genre cinema, and the newest hits by renown filmmakers, nominated and awarded at this years Asian Film Awards gala.

Presented in the section is one of last year’s most important Chinese productions, "Youth" (China, 2017) by Feng Xiaogang, who is often called the Chinese Spielberg. This widely commented work of the popular director is an offbeat look at the era of Cultural Revolution – a story of a group of young artists preparing shows for the army. The nostalgia with which their first loves and adolescent dilemmas are portrayed is paired up with the tragedy of the historical changes taking place in the background. The songs from the times of Mao are still very emotive for the older generations of Chinese viewers, but the director is looking for new means to talk about those extremely difficult times. The vast success of the film testifies to the fact that it is a topic the audience is ready to debate.

Special Screenings

"Ten Years.Thailand", dir. Chulayarnnon Siriphol, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Wisit Sasanatieng and Aditya Assarat, Thailand, Hong-Kong, Japan, 2018

Five Flavours never fails to showcase the films which are particularly important for Asian cinema, and the works of filmmakers our audiences are familiar with. One of the masters returning to our program is Pen-ek Ratanaruang, whose retrospective was presented at the 3rd Five Flavours. The newest film of the Thai genre cinema specialist, "Samui Song" (Thailand, Germany, Norway 2017), is a stylish psychological thriller inspired by the works of Hitchcock and the 1960s melodramas. Dark sexuality, a mysterious sect, and a desperate decision of the heroine – Ratanaruang knows how to keep the audiences on their toes, surprising them with unexpected mood shifts.

Other representatives of the Thai New Wave appear as co-authors of the project "Ten Years Thailand" (Thailand, Hong Kong, Japan 2018), presented at this year’s festival in Cannes. It is a continuation of the cycle opened by the famous Hong Kong "Ten Years," showcasing the potential social changes which can take place in the near future as a result of current political decisions. The Thai version of the film, made up of several novellas, was created by Chulayarnnon Siriphol, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Wisit Sasanatieng, and Aditya Assarat, who took up this arthouse, science-fiction project to convey their visions of the upcoming decade. The allegorical, and the very literal images reflect not only on the situation in Thailand, but also on the wider, though not necessarily brighter, future of the world.

Focus: Philippines

The cinema of the Philippines has one of the oldest traditions and richest film outputs in the region – this year marks its 100th anniversary. The last decade was a time of its dynamic development, both in terms of commercial productions and the achievements of new generations of independent filmmakers. Numerous auteur pieces by Filipino artists have been screened at international festivals, showing the diverse, often unexpected images of the culture of the country. Apart from the vivid portraits of the busy streets of Manila, the cinema of the Philippines offers unique stories from its seven thousand islands, numerous personal essays, and strong plots, uncompromisingly appraising the actions of the government.

The filmmakers often speak about the surrounding reality using the tools of genre films, from action cinema to musicals, wrapping the ambitious substance in a unique form, and shifting the boundaries of cinema. Individual biographies, the colonial past, contemporary issues of violence, poverty, and the disparities in the growing wealth of the society – everything has its place in the country’s rich cinema, which is going through its third "golden era."

New Asian Cinema

Like in the previous years, the main axis of the festival is the competition section presenting new auteur cinema from countries such as Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Japan, China, and Thailand. The Q&A sessions with festival guest after the screenings are a great opportunity to discuss art, cinephile fascinations, and contemporary culture. New Asian Cinema is a meeting space for the avant-garde aesthetics, controversial statements, formal experiments, and fresh voices commenting on the modern Asian reality.

12th Five Flavours Asian Film Festival – Warsaw, November 14-21
Festival passes available from August 1st.

Organized by: Arteria Art Foundation
Partners: Warsaw City Council, Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, Asian Film Awards Academy, Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Berlin

Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival and sub-festivals open submissions, with a new Baltic Film competition

Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival (aka PÖFF), Youth and Children’s Film Festival Just Film and PÖFF Shorts have opened submissions for the 2018 edition.

The 22nd edition of PÖFF, running from November 16th to December 2nd, will see a major change in one of the three competition programmes of the festival. The former Estonian Film Competition that used to be judged by the same jury as the First Feature Competition will be turned into a new programme with its own international jury – the Baltic Film Competition – screening a selection of feature-length films made in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. The programme requires Estonian premiere for the Lithuanian and Latvian films (no premiere requirements for Estonian films) and is designed as a showcase of the best Baltic cinematic output from the last year. The programme will have one award - Award for Best Baltic Feature Film with a grant of 3200 Euros, shared by the director and producer.

Festival director Tiina Lokk comments: „The Baltic Competition is actually an old idea of ours that we are excited to return to. It was a programme we had to cancel years back, as the Baltic film output was just not sufficient enough. We are glad that the situation in the three countries has improved significantly and we can embrace the regional aspiration of PÖFF, to introduce the best cinematic output of the three states.“

The festival will also continue its two other competition programmes. The Official Selection Competition will look for films completed after the 15th of September, 2017. With world, international or European premiere as a eligibility criterium.

The First Feature Competition, open for filmmakers presenting their feature debut, will accept films completed after the 15th of September, 2017. That have not had their world or international premiere.

Submissions are also open for all the non-competitive sections of the festival. The programme will include around 200 feature films and documentaries. The final day for submissions is the 17th of August.

The 17th Youth and Children’s film festival Just Film will also see a significant change as the festival will now be run as long as the main festival - 17 days - to meet the growing demand of the audience. The festival broke its audience record for the fourth year in a row, reaching 17500 last year. Just Film is looking for films for its youth and children’s competitions and documentary sections. Submissions will stay open until the 17th of August.

The 2nd PÖFF Shorts, showcasing short films and animations, will run from the 20th to the 25th of November. The festival saw the merging of two separate sub-festivals last year - the animation film festival Animated Dreams and the International Short Film Festival Sleepwalkers. The new festival has retained the identities and most programmes of the former festival. Submissions close on the 25th of August.

About TromaDance:

The Tromadance Film Festival is now in its 19th year and was first developed by Lloyd Kaufman, President of Troma Entertainment and Creator of The Toxic Avenger. South Park co-creator Trey Parker, whose debut film "Cannibal! The Musical" is distributed by Troma Entertainment, suggested the idea for Tromadance to Kaufman in 1999. Kaufman felt that the Sundance Film Festival, and similar exclusive big wig festivals, had become too "Hollywood" by charging high entry fees, showing multimillion-dollar "independent" movies, and practicing an elitist structure and film selection process. Parker urged Kaufman to create his own festival -the direct independent opposite of Sundance - that would be free to enter and attend, focusing on independently produced films made without the Hollywood system. From 1999 - 2010 Tromadance operated concurrently alongside the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah and acted as a true independent alternative to Sundance's mainstream offerings.

Unlike every other film festival, Tromadance does not charge filmmakers to submit their work and entrance to all screenings and panels are free to the public. There are no VIP reservations or preferential treatment regarding Tromadance's films or filmmaking panels. The organizers of Tromadance believe films are meant to be seen, especially the work of emerging filmmakers. Art - in all its forms - is for everyone. Tromadance is the first film festival of the people, for the people, and by the people!

After 2010, Tromadance expanded to multiple locations across the country in order to spread the TROMAtic word of truly independent art. The festival has been held in Detroit, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, Brooklyn, and New Jersey.

James Gunn's LolliloveHuman Centipede, and Anna Biller's Viva

all were TromaDance Premieres/Discoveries!

Tromadance has enjoyed great success throughout its almost two decade run and has been covered in various international publications including IndieWire, Brooklyn Vegan, The AV Club, Fangoria, Bloody Disgusting, Dread Central, Rue Morgue, Famous Monsters of Filmland, Forbes, Noisey, MirrorUK, the New York Daily News, Page Six of the New York Post, and many more. Past sponsors include Kodak, Sega, G4, Drafthouse Films, Pabst Blue Ribbon, Lomography, and Kitsplit.com, just to name a few.

Besides world premiere screenings, such as the first U.S. showing of "The Human Centipede" in 2010, another highlight of every Tromadance Film Festival is the annual panel discussion. Panels in years past have included industry professionals, such as James Gunn, Ti West, Larry Fessenden, Rose Ganguzza, Bill Plympton, Kevin Eastman, Karen Black, Roy Frumkes, Jason Eisenor, Hery Zebrowski, and more!

The call for the fifth edition with the new formula opens next Monday, 9 July

The programme of residencies and development of audiovisual projects Ikusmira Berriak, which is organised by the San Sebastian Film Festival, the Tabakalera International Centre for Contemporary Culture and the Elías Querejeta Cinema School, is changing its model with the call for the fifth edition. So that the film-makers get as much as possible out of the residency, the residency will be split into two periods, with one in February and one in September.

Residents will develop their projects for four weeks between February and March, during which they will attend workshops for film-makers and directors and will be advised by members of the expert committee, which in 2019 will be composed of Savina Neirotti, Sergio Oksman and Valeska Grisebach, who joins the programme.

From March to September, the directors will continue working on their project. During this period, they will receive online tutoring from the experts, and then in September they will return to San Sebastian to complete the last two weeks of their residency, when they will arrive with their project in a more advanced state so that they can share it with the film industry. During this last phase, a learning workshop on the market environment will be organised for them, and they will be prepared for the pitching session (presentation of the project) with the aim of holding meetings with the industry professionals present at the Festival.

The call for the fifth edition of Ikusmira Berriak, with its new structure, will open on 9 July and will close on 31 August. The projects selected will be announced in October.

For their part, the five residents from the fourth edition - Manuel Abramovich, Nele Wohlatz, Elena López Riera, Arantza Santesteban and Grigory Kolomytsev - will begin their residency on 20 August.

Three projects chosen during the first editions of Ikusmira Berriak have been completed and have been screened at the Festival: the short films El extraño by Pablo Álvarez, Calipatria by Leo Calice and Gerhard Treml and Gwendolyn Green by Tamyka Smith were presented at Zabaltegi-Tabakalera in 2016 and 2017.  The programme's first finished feature film will première this year: Trote, directed by Xacio Baño, who was a resident in the first edition of the programme.

Ikusmira Berriak is a programme that seeks to involve new talent as well as producers and people from the audiovisual industry who support innovation and new languages. It is organised by Tabakalera, the San Sebastian Film Festival, and the Elías Querejeta Cinema School in collaboration with REC Recording Studio and the Basque Film Library, and is part of the San Sebastian 2016 European Capital of Culture legacy.

Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival and sub-festivals open submissions

Logo

Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival (aka PÖFF), Youth and Children’s Film Festival Just Film
and PÖFF Shorts have opened submissions for the 2018 edition.

The 17th Youth and Children’s film festival Just Film is looking for films for its youth and children’s competitions and documentary sections.

TAIPEI by Jason Lester Romance under influence - USA, first feature film 96 minutes

Finding one's own means of expression, remaining true to oneself, putting up resistance: these are qualities that the four uncompromising guests of honor at the 36th FILMFEST MÜNCHEN — Emma Thompson, Terry Gilliam, Lucrecia Martel, and Philip Gröning — have in common along with numerous other international guests, including Jia Zhang-Ke, Jennifer Fox, Margarethe von Trotta, and Alice Rohrwacher, who personally brought their films to Munich. Ten exhilarating, film-filled days have passed in which thousands of people have watched, talked, danced, and debated controversial subjects. It wasn't just the 220 films that thrilled the roughly 80,000 people who attended the festival, but also the diverse Filmmakers Live! discussions that were streamed live across the Internet this year for the first time, including discussions on the future of the German film and series markets and talks with international guests. This is an innovation that audiences and the Internet community eagerly made use of. The live streams of the Filmmakers Live! panel discussions reached a total of about 73,000 viewers via the FILMFEST MÜNCHEN fan page on Facebook. Daily reports broadcast by our new partner, TELE 5, reached between 100,000 and 200,000 viewers. FILMFEST MÜNCHEN is also of growing importance to the film industry: this year, about 10 percent more industry events were held than last year.

Lots of discussions revolved around finding one's own personal means of expression and leaving one's own mark on a film, even if this sometimes means telling a story in an awkward and recalcitrant way. Time is also an important topic of discussion and a theme in lots of films at FILMFEST MÜNCHEN: the time it takes for a work to be completed, for a character to develop, for a plot to unwind on screen. The time an audience takes to explore the other worlds that are presented to it. For ten days, the festival once again made that possible for its audiences.

Looking toward the future, as it's put in the preface to this year's Filmfest magazine, things appear hopeful and innovative, not just with regard to new projects and trends in the market, but also with regard to the festival itself. The budget increase of three million euros that's been announced is one more reason for FILMFEST MÜNCHEN to look toward the future with new ideas and eyes wide open — or as festival director Diana Iljine puts it:

"I'm happy that in the past ten days we've again been able to bring excellent films, wonderful people, new ideas, and certainly even glamor to the city. Once again, FILMFEST MÜNCHEN was a great success. And just as films are always a team project, a festival can be put together only by lots of people working together. It's the accomplishment of a team, and I thank all of our staff for their hard work and commitment! What they say about soccer also applies here: After the festival is before the festival. Having the chance to further develop FILMFEST MÜNCHEN and reposition it in the coming years is a challenge that we gladly accept and that my team and I are very much looking forward to."
