The provincial in-person celebration of Indian Cinema returns to major hubs across the city and new centres in the GTA, Montreal and Surrey

The eighth India Film Festival of Alberta (IFFA) will take place across the province this September with in-person events in Edmonton (Sept 2-4), Calgary (Sept 9-11), Fort McMurray (Sept 16-18), and Sherwood Park (Sept 24 & 26). In addition to touring in the province, this year the festival will also host screenings across Canada in the GTA (Sept 23 – Oct 2), Montreal (Oct 2), and Surrey (Oct 14-16).

“IFFA is a big celebration of “Culture of India” through films, dance, and food,” said Madhan Selvaraj, Executive Director of Edmonton Movie Club, the non-profit organization which organizes the festival.

“Like previous years, we will be doing a special showcase on Indian culture, and this year we will be highlighting the Bengali culture. In addition, IFFA is also partnering up with OHO Gujarati, India’s Premier OTT network, to showcase their upcoming shows,” he added.

The focus of the India Film Festival of Alberta remains cinema, showcasing a diverse amount of films from India, from new releases making their premiere on the festival circuit, to a retrospective, and Indian classics.

"This year's film selections contain works from established master filmmakers and exciting new voices making their cinematic debut. There are films from all four corners of India, including a special inclusion of a film from Bangladesh which is one of the best films from South Asia in recent years,” said Sachin Gandhi, Lead Programmer of India Film Festival of Alberta.

The lineup of films playing this year’s festival and schedule is available HERE.

“Multiple languages are represented in this year's lineup which also features two documentaries, one with huge relevance to the Canadian-Indian diaspora while the other documentary gives us an insightful look into a lesser known aspect about Bollywood,” added Gandhi.

Tickets to all films will go on sale when the lineup is announced on August 15 www.indiafilmfestival.ca.
