Berlinale Shorts

Close-Ups of the Bigger Picture

With their fearless subjectivity, the filmmakers of the Berlinale Shorts invite us to see the world through their eyes. Competing for the Golden and Silver Bears are 21 films from 19 countries, including new works by Deepak Rauniyar, Sky Hopinka and Berlinale Bear winners Atsushi Wada and Radu Jude. The International Short Film Jury comprises Rosa Barba, Reinhard W. Wolf and Payal Kapadia. More information

Forum Expanded: Closer to the Ground

Moving closer to the ground, getting to the bottom of things, looking and hearing with precision, perceiving what’s happening close by, oft-unnoticed: these are the ideas that inform the 17th edition of Forum Expanded and the selection of films, installations and performances that will be presented as part of the Berlinale at the Arsenal cinema, silent green Kulturquartier, the Embassy of Canada, SAVVY Contemporary as well as at the Zeiss-Großplanetarium for the very first time. Perspektive Deutsches Kino

An Echo of the Past

All of the films echo the past. A World War II bomb is discovered, corpses are unearthed, an old love story yields a different look at the division of Germany and at the failures that were made and not addressed. These issues all are confronting us with their consequences to this day. Young German filmmakers take stock and find a motif for identity and history in the German forest. With this programme, section head Linda Söffker says goodbye to the Berlinale in order to pursue new professional paths. More information
