Closing night begins with Close Ties to Home Country, a charming short comedy about an immigrant dog walker who finds home in the hearts of rich people’s dogs. 2021 Student Academy Awards Finalist. Filmmaker Akanksha Cruczynski is scheduled to attend for a post-film Q&A. View the trailer.
Americanish – Directed by Iman Zawahry, USA, 91 minutes
In Jackson Heights, Queens, sisters Maryam and Sam and their fresh off the boat cousin Ameera, try all the conventional ways to earn the love and respect of the matriarch of their family — only to learn that life works out in the most unconventional ways. The film highlights the rarely seen perspective of American Muslim women as they intersect with cultural and societal expectations.

Closing night festivities will continue after the film with the Tasveer Audience and Jury awards as well as the Tasveer Film Fund winner followed by a live comedy show presented by the Desi Girl Comedy Project with Zubi Ahmed and Sonal Aggarwal. Americanish writer/actor Aizzah Fatima will perform her show “Dirty Paki Laundry'' as part of the comedy showcase.
