FRENCH CINEMA AT ITS FINEST
 
The Alliance Française French Film Festival is back and better than ever, guaranteed to beguile and delight audiences with a thrilling selection of French cinema.

Over March and April, viewers will be whisked from their seats to Paris, Cannes, Tunisia and beyond, with an utterly captivating lineup of films. Awash with high-octane drama, seductive romance, nail-biting suspense, historical tales that will enthral and comedies guaranteed to elevate your spirits, the festival is showcasing 37 spectacular films, including an incredible nine international premieres, and several special events.

With new Artistic Director Karine Mauris leading the way, the Alliance Française teams have worked tirelessly to curate a festival that will inspire and engage, with films for experienced festival-goers and newcomers alike.

Presented by Peugeot Australia and the Alliance Française in association with the French Embassy in Australia and Unifrance Films, this joyous and evocative celebration of French culture will screen in splendour amidst the safest possible environment at partnering cinemas.

 
 

JOIN US FOR CLOSING NIGHT!
 
Celebrate the end of another brilliant season of French cinema with a Closing Night soiree! From the director of worldwide smash hit The Bélier Family comes #Iamhere, an endearing culture-clash comedy about a French chef seeking love and inspiration on the other side of the world. Come along on Wednesday 31 March for a glass of champagne and an exclusive screening of this big-hearted film.

 
 

BYE BYE MORONS
 
This whirlwind, borderline-absurd film, starring and directed by Albert Dupontel, follows Suze Trappet’s (Virginie Efira) quest to find the son she was forced to abandon. A refreshing burst of anarchic energy and César Best Film winner, audiences will be left delightfully giddy by its twists and turns.
 
 
SUMMER OF 85

Told in flashback and reminiscent of a retro '80s teen movie, François Ozon’s latest, unmissable film is a thrilling and hotblooded tale of love and obsession. Blending sensuality with mystery, Summer of 85 is France’s edgier answer to Call Me By Your Name.
 
 
THE WEDDING SPEECH
 
Charting the torturous unravelling of Adrien (Benjamin Lavernhe) through the night of a painful family wedding, crowd-pleasing director Laurent Tirard is back with a bang in this witty and sophisticated arthouse comedy.
 
 
ARAB BLUES
 
When Parisian psychotherapist Selma (the magnificent Golshifteh Farahani) decides to return to her hometown in Tunisia, she is met with an eclectic town of locals who are both bewildered by her practice, and in desperate need of her help.

Inspired by remarkable true events, multi-award-winning writer Emmanuel Courcol’s rousing, Cannes-selected directorial debut follows a dedicated out-of-work actor (indelibly played by the fabulous Kad Merad) whose life takes an unexpected career turn.
 
 
THE ROSE MAKER

The magnificent Catherine Frot takes centre stage as Eve, a world-renowned rose farmer on the verge of bankruptcy, with three talentless gardeners on her hands. Funny and kind-hearted, The Rose Maker is a definite highlight of this year’s festival.
 
 
ANTOINETTE IN THE CÉVENNES
 
The delightful Laure Calamy (Call My Agent!) and her scene-stealing co-star, Patrick the donkey, captivate audiences in Antoinette in the Cévennes. An Official Selection from Cannes, this original and highly amusing comedy is not to be missed.
 
 
NIGHT SHIFT

The irresistible Omar Sy joins Belgian darling Virginie Efira for this searing and utterly engrossing film. Set over 24-hours, three world-weary cops start to question their livelihoods when ordered to escort a man to a plane for deportation to a country that will kill him.
