Lucca Film Festival and Europa Cinema postponed in autumn

Revealed the poster dedicated to Federico Fellini on the occasion of the hundredth anniversary of his birth

Lucca Film Festival and Europa Cinema, one of the core events of the Cassa di Risparmio di Lucca Foundation, has been postponed in autumn due to the international health emergency, in a Festival scattered across virtual and in-room appointments all over the city.

The current emergency has led to a further postponement of the dates (from the official ones in March, then to May) and to imagine new narratives with new tools, which are being evaluated by the organization, to continue to tell viewers about the fascinating world of international and Italian cinema among showings, art, meetings and live events such as Effetto Cinema Notte.

“We are evaluating” commented Nicola Borrelli, president of the festival “new forms and new languages to reach the public with strategies shared with the city and the various partners. We are sure that cinema will once again give concrete answers that will contribute to the restart of the world of culture in Tuscany and Italy.”

On the announcement of the new dates, the “poster-manifesto” of the 2020 edition dedicated to Federico Fellini, the great Italian director, was revealed on the occasion of the hundredth anniversary of his birth.

As if it were an old vintage camera shot, the artist from Lucca, Francesco Giani has made a poster dedicated “to Cinema - he explained - with a capital letter. Fellini is an icon of universal power. In making the manifesto I was inspired by Fellini's artistic quotations that intercept, among the waves, the symbols of his cinema.” In the poster, presented in two versions with further chromatic variations, waves “carry” some of the symbols of Fellini's cinema: one of the most famous and iconic women in the world (Anita Ekberg in “La Dolce Vita”), the “lovesick” rhinoceros in “And the Ship sails On” and the full moon in “The Voice of the Moon”.

This tribute to Fellini is also meant to be a reminder of his long-standing relationship with the city of Viareggio and the “Europa Cinema” festival, first established by Felice Laudadio. The great Italian director even drew its logo, a caricatural self-portrait, and in 1993 – the year of his death – the festival paid homage to him with a retrospective show.

This year’s edition of the festival will be a trip around Fellini’s world, with showings, exhibitions, meetings and special events that will spice up the programme, as well as international stars, Italian premières and special guests.

Moreover, the registration deadlines for the Feature Films and Short Films Competition have been postponed to the 31st of August and the selected works will be announced on the 15th of September.
It will be possible to apply for the student jury until the 22nd of September by sending an e-mail to segreteria@luccafilmfestival.it .
