The festival will open with a Tribute to legendary actress Tabu
IFFLA 2019 unveils program lineup!
IFFLA is excited to announce its 2019 stellar lineup. The festival will take place from April 11-14 at two exciting locations- Regal L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles, and Ahrya Fine Arts Theater in Beverly Hills. Tickets and Passes now on sale.
Join us for our opening night gala as we celebrate the award winning actress, Tabu. The program will feature an on stage conversation with Tabu, followed by a screening of Sriram Raghavan’s ANDHADHUN, and a Q&A with Tabu and Raghavan. This musical-thriller will sure have you on the edge of your seats.
Other program highlights include Ritesh Batra’s PHOTOGRAPH and Anamika Haksar’s TAKING THE HORSE TO EAT JALEBIS which premiered at Sundance and will be seen in LA for the first time. We also have films set in Los Angeles, telling stories from the diaspora! Ronak Shah's LOVE GOES THROUGH YOUR MIND, about siblings dealing with bipolar disorder; and the world premiere of Varun Chounal's lol-filled Sikh American comedy GABROO.
There are three completely unique films set in Kolkata, two of which are in Bengali: CHIPPA, a family film starting Sunny Pawar from the Oscar-nominated LION; Slamdance 2019 Honorable Mention CAT STICKS, a not-so-family-film; and the magnificent JONAKI by alum Aditya Vikram Sengupta!
There is strong female representation as three films showcase central female characters dealing quite differently with the strife in Kashmir (WIDOW OF SILENCEby Pravin Morchhale and NOOREH by Ashish Pandey) and Tibet (THE SWEET REQUIEM, produced by Spirit Award grant winner Shrihari Sathe). 7 of our 10 shorts are either directed by women or have a central female character.
Opening Gala: A TRIBUTE TO TABU Tabu and Sriram Raghavan in person!
In Festival opener ANDHADHUN, Tabu takes on a comedic role, albeit still playing the kind of villainess that her audiences adore. Also starring the charming Ayushmann Khurrana as a secretive blind pianist and the delightful Radhika Apte as his suspicious, sassy girlfriend. Q&A and dinner reception to follow, hosted by Spice Affair. Buy tickets
